This Is A Call: Music Of The 90s – SEBADOH “Skull”
May 19, 2011
For our second entry of “This Is A Call: Music Of The 90s“, who better to turn to than songwriter extraordinaire Lou Barlow? Like most fellow grungsters of the early 90′s, I first discovered Barlow as the bass player for Dinosaur Jr, arguably one of the loudest live bands of that era or perhaps of ever! Barlow left Dinosaur after the release of their 3rd record Bug and formed Sebadoh. Sedadoh released several albums over the course of the 90′s, all with a shitload of tracks ranging from straight up punk rock to folky ballads to indie rock n’ roll. One of my personal favorite Sebadoh songs “Skull” came from Bakesale, also my fave album by them.
On top of Sebadoh, Barlow also formed Folk Implosion which had a great level of success thanks to their hit single “The Natural One” from Larry Clark’s controversial movie KIDS. He’s also released albums and performed acoustically as an solo artist until most recently rejoining Dinosaur Jr for 2 new albums. For now, let’s celebrate with the original music video for “Skull” featured on the Sebadoh record Bakesale. -Robg.
