Favorite physical media releases of 2023!

Personal fave release: The Sensual World of Black Emanuelle (Severin)

Best label overall: Arrow Video – Absolutely killed it with these PSYCHO and HELLRAISER boxsets. And that BRUCE LEE 4K set is a thing of utter beauty. True art on your shelf in every way.

Best packaging / presentation: Second Sight with their stellar TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, MARTIN, and IT FOLLOWS releases. Notable mentions: CHOPPER, MAY, GINGERS SNAPS, FRONTIER(S)

Movie releases that have always deserved better, with expectations exceeded? ROAD HOUSE and A BLADE IN THE DARK (Vinegar Syndrome)

Long Overdue: Early Michelle Yeoh films get the respect they deserve from 88 Films with POLICE STORY III in 4K and the epic IN THE LINE OF DUTY box set. Thank you Imprint for: MALENA & DAMAGE. Thank you Eureka for the Andrzej Zulawski box set and the MR. VAMPIRES sequels!

Best gimmick package: THE LAST HORROR FILM with the MANIAC 2 slipcase! (Severin)

Not pictured, but equally appreciated – Kino Lorber for DEATH WISH 4K, and DEATH WISH 4 & 5 with those excellent Paul Talbot commentaries. Criterion Collection for the Tod Browning triple-feature, AFTER HOURS, and LA BAMBA!
