EXCL: Stuart Gordon’s The Thing At The Doorstep Update

September 25, 2009

ShockTillYouDrop.com got the chance to sit down recently with filmmaker Stuart Gordon to chat about his stellar play Nevermore: An Evening With Edgar Allan Poe, which is currently playing every weekend at the Steve Allen Theater here in Los Angeles.

He’s been attached to several intriguing film projects over the course of the last year now, but with the play extended through late October and a potential tour for Nevermore on the horizon, we pressed for status updates on a few projects the director’s been associated with.

One such project is Ladies’ Night, based upon the 2000 Jack Ketchum novel. “Jack Ketchum and I did a script together based on his book Ladies’ Night and I’ve been trying to get that going for a long time,” Gordon tells us. “It’s amazing to me that I’m having such a hard time getting it financed because I think it could be a classic. It’s such a simple idea. It’s about a toxic spill that only affects women and turns them into killing machines essentially. And so it’s a war of the sexes, man versus women. Everyone knows that women are more deadly then the male!”

While that film may still be waiting on financing, we’re always excited at the prospect of Gordon tackling more H.P. Lovecraft material, such as The Thing on the Doorstep, another film announced a few months back.

“We’re working on that as well and hoping to be shooting that next year,” says Gordon. “I love doing Lovecraft and it’s been a while and this has been a story that I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time. Dennis Paoli also wrote the script and it’s wonderful.”

While the filmmaker seems hopeful to make The Thing on the Doorstep sometime early next year, right now he’s focused on the Poe play until Halloween. Look for our full interview with Stuart Gordon about Nevermore: An Evening With Edgar Allan Poe shortly!
