What Would YOUR 5 Desert Island Horror Picks Be?

June 26, 2017

Have you had a chance to listen to the latest BONUS episode of the Shock Waves podcast?

For this special segment, I sat down with co-host and head of development for Blumhouse Productions, Ryan Turek, to learn a bit about his horror background and tastes. Way back when we kicked off Shock Waves, my co-hosts and I answered a series of horror-related questions that we figured would give new listeners a good idea of our overall personalities. Since Ryan joined the show a bit later in its run, I thought it would be fun to hit him with those same questions we answered way back in our debut podcast episode!

The first? What would be your top 5 desert island horror picks?

Think about it. Hypothetically speaking, you’re stranded on a desert island, away from the rest of society. And you only have access to 5 horror movies for the rest of your life. What would they be?

Would you go for the classics? Or are they fun guilty pleasures you’d put on your queue considering it’s all you’d have in such a dire environment? It’s a tough choice, but after the episode aired, we posed the same inquiry to the people that are active in the Facebook Shock Waves Horror Movie Club group.

Before I cull the most popular responses, let’s hear Ryan’s picks, embedded below for your convenience.

Ryan picked classics such as FRIGHT NIGHT and John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN. I know that I, myself, couldn’t live without EVIL DEAD 2. And knowing this would be the only movie(s) I’d get to watch for the rest of my life, I may go for something like A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS as my Freddy pick, because that particular sequel is the epitome of the entire NIGHTMARE franchise.

So, OK, based on the comments of nearly 100 people on the Shock Waves Facebook group, here are the most popular 5 answers:

HALLOWEEN 1978
DAWN OF THE DEAD 1978
JAWS
John Carpenter’s THE THING
SUSPIRIA

Runners-up:

FRIGHT NIGHT
CREEPSHOW
TRICK ‘R TREAT
THE EXORCIST
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

We can argue over this for hours! But let’s hear from you guys in the comments below: If you could only watch 5 horror movies for the rest of your life, what would they be? GO!
